The Nevşehir–Avanos bus is a cheap local transit line covering about 20 km in roughly 60 minutes between Cappadocia's capital and the Avanos pottery town. Municipal buses and dolmuş minibuses run through the day; pay cash to the driver, and confirm the return time before evening.
The trip covers about 19.88 km and takes roughly 60 minutes. It is not a nonstop express — the bus makes frequent local stops to pick up and drop off passengers, so allow the full hour and a little buffer for connections.
Buses generally run at regular intervals through the day, roughly every 30–60 minutes, with more departures in the morning and late afternoon and lighter service in the evening and on Sundays. Fares are inexpensive and paid in cash to the driver; a regional transit card may sometimes be accepted. Confirm exact times and prices locally on the day you travel.
Göreme and Uçhisar are not directly on this line. First take a local dolmuş into Nevşehir, then transfer to the Avanos bus at the otogar or a marked roadside stop. Alternatively, the direct Göreme–Avanos dolmuş is often more convenient if you are staying in Göreme.
Yes. As a transport route its difficulty is minimal (1 of 5) — you just board, pay and ride — so it suits families, older travelers and first-timers. Bring water in summer since minibuses are not always air-conditioned, wear comfortable shoes for hilly Avanos, and say your destination clearly to the driver since stops are not always announced.
Mid-morning to early afternoon is best, when departures are most frequent and you have the whole day in Avanos for its pottery workshops and the Kızılırmak riverfront. Avoid the last evening runs unless you have confirmed the return time, since missing the final bus may leave you dependent on a costly taxi.
